Living with Resolute Determination

James Allen (1864-1912) wrote, "Where faith is, there is courage, there is fortitude, there is steadfastness and strength."

How can you live with a resolute determination and steadfastness when you feel stuck or overwhelmed with uncertainty?

First, keep a sharp mental focus on your intended outcome. When problems arise, solution-focused thought allows continued movement in accurate directions.

If you feel stuck, adjust your perspective to view the broader landscape of possibilities available. It is easy to loose site of all the options.

Imagine standing in a basin of giant sequoia trees. These living miracles of strength and endurance seem to leave you feeling powerless and insignificant. They limit your viewpoint, not allowing you to see your entrance into or exit from the forest. You are not sure how you came to this point.

However, if you climb the slopes above the sequoia groves, you begin to see sparkling streams meandering down through the trees. You see the activity of wildlife along the smaller fir trees where you entered the forest. Your perspective is broader, and now you understand where you came from. Looking up, you see towering waterfalls above, and you notice several potential paths to your destination.

By asking questions that will broaden your perspectives concerning any situation where you feel stuck, your eyes begin to open wider. More options become available because you have expanded your awareness of the possibilities available. Once again, you can feel the courage and resolute determination to complete the journey that you began.

German poet, Rainer Maria Rilke, 1875-1926, spoke about completion and living with determination amid feelings of uncertainty. There is a feeling of steadfastness and faith in his beautiful poem...

"I Live My Life"

I live my life in widening rings
which spread over earth and sky.
I may not ever complete the last one,
but that is what I will try.

I circle around God's primordial tower,
and I circle ten thousand years long;
And I still don't know if I'm a falcon,
a storm, or an unfinished song.

- Rainer Maria Rilke, 1875-1926

When you feel doubt and uncertainty, know that God has a path for you to follow. Your faith and determination will enable you to achieve your top potential.
