Kids ATVs

All-terrain vehicles are wonderful for children. Not only is this exercise entertaining, it is also educational. While most ATVs for children are shrunken versions of adult ATVs, some ATVs boast of features like youth-size grips and controls, adjustable seat heights and advanced electronic controls for children's safety.

An important feature of the ATVs for children is the remote-controlled on-off switch. They also have hydraulic disk brakes in the rear, and a floorboard for extra safety. The engine for a kid's ATV can be anything from 40 to 90 CC.

Parents should remember that an ATV for kids is still a vehicle, not a toy. It is impossible to overstress the importance of the fact that the parent is completely responsible for their kid's driving an ATV.

According to law, children under the age of ten are not allowed to operate a three-wheeled ATV, let alone allowed to cross the road or highway on one. The legal age for a person to operate and drive an ATV without any supervision on open roads and streets is sixteen.

It is also recommended that the children undergo a training course before actually riding an all-terrain vehicle. A child should be able to sit on and reach the controls properly on the ATV. He should also have an excellent sense of coordination. All in all, the child's understanding of the vehicle plays a major role in deciding whether the child is ready to ride the ATV or not.

Also, it is important for children to wear helmets, gloves, pants and boots before driving an ATV. Parents are the best teachers and safety guides for their children. Therefore, they should have a thorough knowledge of the controls, riding techniques, handling characteristics and maintenances of an ATV before their children start riding one.
