A sofa is a piece of furniture that can be found in practically everybodys house. It is indeed an inviting piece of furniture, even in your friends home. One look at the sofa and it almost invites you to sleep on it!

There are many types of sofas for one to choose from: leather sofas, futon sofas, sectional sofas and modern sofas. Those on a budget can go for one of the various inexpensive sofas available, while those who want to make their offices comfortable can choose from the various office sofas available. The first type of furniture was made of leather. The leather was stretched without any padding under it for support. However, later, during the Italian Renaissance, chairs were cushioned with leather, embroidery, and velvet, and the French chairs were the ornate ones with tapestries and embroideries. The application of springs in the sofa is fairly a modern concept. The padding in sofas is usually made of hair, flock, foam, fiber, rubber and kapok, while some of the sofa coverings may be made out of woven fabrics, plastics, synthetic leather and leather.
