Graduate School Scholarships

A good education has a high price and yearly increases in the cost of living makes attending a good graduate school quite expensive. One of the most important factors people consider while applying to a graduate school is the cost involved. Student loans and scholarships are the two options open to students to help them overcome this financial hurdle. The amount of scholarships offered in the U.S. is astounding. There are several scholarships easily available but the criteria may differ from university to university.

Every school has a financial aid center that helps students with information about available scholarships. All options should be explored. Parents, friends, teachers, and the Internet all are possible sources that should be tapped for information regarding funding.

The U.S. government helps in its own way. FAFSA, which stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid is one such government aid. While granting funding to a student FAFSA takes into account students parents earnings. Amounts are fixed on this basis. A point to be noted here is that grants need not be paid back, but loans do.

There is a lot of money available in scholarships; all you need is a lot of extensive research and hard work to find out about them and apply. There is over $129 billion available in financial aids. A financial advisor can help you filling out forms for various grants. One just needs to start working on the research early.

The National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA) has been set up with a view to enhancing the reach and availability of scholarship to deserving students. This association functions as a forum for the exchange of best practices and policy information among scholarship providers. Set up in 1999, the NSPA now has 150 organizational members. It also boasts of several individual members. Several small and large private foundations, public charities, some universities and colleges are among the members of the NSPA. The NSPA memberships scholarship awards account for over $450,000,000 in scholarships to more than 200,000 students each year.
